MARSA is a shoe inspired by the free and peaceful energy of coastal living. With influences from nautical vessels, Arabian harbors, and undulating waves, this shoe was born from the ocean to serve those who live by it with a breathable, woven texture and soft, comfortable fit. The organic materials that make up the shoe, including jute and wool, were chosen to cause the least impact possible to the ocean environment. Plastic flip-flops and sandals make up a significant portion of the plastic waste in our oceans today, but through sustainable material choices, Marsa mitigates the detrimental impacts to ocean life while still being practical, comfortable, and fashionable for those by the shoreline.
Marsa consists of two main felt pieces and a length of rope that makes up the sole. The sole is made from wound up jute rope to give a soft and flexible walking experience. The wool felt is completely biodegradable along with the wool thread that keeps the shoe fully stitched together. A low-set ankle collar allows for a simple slide-on / slide-off experience that also allows the feet to breathe. This is complemented by the braided vamp and toe box that keeps air flowing.
